6 Hesitations About Blogging and How to Overcome Them

Before we started blogging, we both had hesitations about it for different reasons. It’s completely normal to have hesitations about starting something new. We’re so glad that we were able to look past those and go forward with what we wanted to do. Hopefully this helps you do the same!

It Costs Money

Let’s start with the most obvious issue people have: money. It does cost a little bit of money to start a blog the way we recommend doing it: a self-hosted WordPress blog. We get it – it’s hard to spend money on something you’re unsure of. That being said, you can get started for under $30 up front or as low as $4/month using our coupon code. Compare that to a “starter kit” of any of the MLM companies out there and it’s not much at all!

Plus, when you start your blog- you have it. It’s yours. You don’t have to sell something within a few weeks to get started, no one is pressuring you to perform. It’s all on you- for better or worse! We personally believe you should commit to a year or more when you sign up for your blog- it’s a fact that if you have a little bit of money invested in something, you’re more likely to give it your best efforts to make it work.

Putting Yourself Out There

A lot of people have hesitations about putting details of their life on the internet for anyone to see.
Here’s what we have to say about that: only share what you’re comfortable sharing. You’re unique and interesting all by yourself, so if you don’t want to share details about your job or your children, don’t. You’ll still be able to have an interesting blog without those details.

Something to keep in mind- if you already have public profiles on social networks, anyone can see things about you anyway. Of course, if you’re not comfortable with doing something, don’t do it. All we can say is that it’s never been an issue for me and we’re so glad we didn’t let that worry hold us back.

No One Will Read My Blog

This is a fear (and a realization) that many people have. It’s true, when you start, not many people will read your blog. If it was as easy as starting a blog one month and cashing checks the next, everyone would be blogging! The truth is it takes work making connections and building your audience, but it can (and does) happen every single day! Unfortunately, this is something most “blog coaches” don’t tell you.

When (I- Katie) started my blog, the only people who read it were my family. I didn’t care because I just enjoyed doing it. I never read tutorials or blogging advice. I definitely would do that now, it just never crossed my mind. I just wanted to write. The thing is, if you love doing it, you’ll be able to withstand the first couple months of feeling like you’re writing for no one. Now, I look back on my first few posts and smile, because I know where that has led me.

People Will Be Mean to Me

This is something that I also worried about. The truth is, if you’re not writing to be controversial, you don’t really have to worry about this. And if you are writing to stir the pot, you hopefully have thick skin already. Of course there are going to be those unhappy people who get their jollies by being jerks online. People can be mean on the internet, but you can’t let that hold you back. You should never let the opinions of others effect the way you pursue your goals.

I Don’t Have Time to Blog

Believe me- if we have time to blog, you have time to blog. We pretty much don’t do any work at all from the hours of 8am through 8pm. On a good day, we get in two hours between the two of us during those 8-8 hours. We do most of our work after the kids go to bed- so from 8pm to 11pm.

If you’re focused and efficient with your time- you can run a successful blog in just a few hours a day- we are living proof of that. You do need to know how to maximize your time, which means less watching TV, less social media surfing and things like that. If you’re short on time- it needs to be maximized.

I Don’t Know How to Run a Blog

That’s where this site comes in. We truly share everything we know about blogging and building a blog. Things will come up that aren’t covered on this site, but they’re often just a quick Google search away from a solution. Not sure how to put ads on your blog- Google it!
