STEP 1: FIGURE OUT YOUR BLOG TOPIC

Choosing a blog topic is the single biggest reason why people fail to start a blog. Chances are you’re simply overthinking it! What are you passionate about? What area do have an expanded knowledge in? What are you personally working to improve in your life? These are all things that make great topics for a blog!

If you’re struggling with coming up with an idea or niche for your blog, the best thing you can do is exactly what I did with KatieDidWhat.com- just get it going and start blogging! I didn’t think about settling into a niche, making money or any of that. I just started. Gary Vaynerchuk preaches “just do” and “just start” for a good reason. You’ll get nowhere by just thinking and thinking and never doing! This is the best advice I’ve heard and is the best advice I can give.

STEP 2: CHOOSE YOUR DOMAIN NAME

Once you have your topic, you’ll need to find a domain name that encompasses what your blog will be about. Keep this somewhat general to give you flexibility in changing your content.

Example: Instead of kimeatshealthyfood.com, try kimshealthylife.com. Just that little change will allow the blogger to move away from blogging about only food without that keyword still remaining in their domain name.

I can’t emphasize this enough: don’t let the idea of not finding a perfect domain name prevent you from starting in the first place! I get the most questions/concerns about this topic. Use the link below for help in thinking of one and move on to creating your blog! It’s what’s ON your blog that is most important.

Go here and type in your prospective domain. Type in your domain name and press enter. If it’s available, you’ll see a green check mark. If not, try another one until you find one that’s available and then move on to step 3.

STEP 3: GET HOSTING FOR YOUR BLOG

Once you’ve found an available domain, it’s time to get hosting for your website. If you’re already on the page from the previous step, simply continue there. Click here to get back to it.

Use code GREATBLOG to get my exclusive discounted rate and pay as low as under $3/month for your hosting. The longer you sign up for at the beginning, the less per month you’ll pay.
